Ramzy, 28, is charged with second-degree rape, second-degree sodomy and being a school employee engaging in a sex act with a student. He was booked into the Tuscaloosa County Jail on Saturday and has since been released after his bond was set at $15,000.

Captain Jack Kennedy, commander of the Tuscaloosa Violent Crimes Unit, said the charges do not fall under Aniah’s Law and instead are subject to the Alabama Rules of Criminal Procedure.

Sources confirmed to Patch that Ramzy was a former college football standout at Tuskegee University and went on to play as a receiver with the Birmingham Stallions of the United Football League, including as a member of the 2023 USFL championship team.

The McCalla native, who was drafted in 16th round of the 2022 USFL Draft, is not listed on the current roster for the Stallions or any other team.

"The Tuscaloosa County School System has high expectations for all faculty and staff," TCSS Superintendent Keri Johnson told parents in a message Sunday morning. "We expect our employees to conduct themselves professionally and with honor. Please know that TCSS takes all reports of wrongdoing – whether by staff or students – seriously. TCSS cooperates with law enforcement and works to ensure all matters are appropriately resolved. The safety and well-being of students is our number one priority, at all times. "

Johnson explained that privacy laws govern information a school district can share regarding students or matters involving employee investigations.

"Just because we do not discuss details of a situation publicly does not mean it is not thoroughly investigated or taken seriously," she said. "We realize situations like this are very upsetting to our entire community."

She went on to say school counselors are available for students and there is a confidential tip line also available if there are safety concerns to report.
