Stillman’s Dunk Departs For Virginia Union After Historic Season

TUSCALOOSA, AL — Stillman College is now searching for a new head women’s basketball coach following the departure of head coach Alico Dunk, who has been named the new head coach at Virginia Union University

Dunk leaves Stillman after eight seasons at the helm, capped by a historic 2025 campaign that saw the Lady Tigers post a 26-6 record and earn a berth in the NAIA Women’s Basketball Tournament.

The Lady Tigers also claimed its first-ever win in national tournament play with an 83-79 victory over Rio Grande in the opening round.
Dunk, a native of Ayden, North Carolina, compiled a 122-106 overall record during his tenure in Tuscaloosa, including five winning seasons.

He came to Stillman after coaching at Elizabeth City State, where he led the women’s team to two division titles and was named CIAA Coach of the Year in 2013.
The Virginia Union Panthers finished 20-9 last season and announced Dunk as the 10th head coach in program history, succeeding Tierra Terry, who left for Winston-Salem State.
Stillman College has not yet named an interim coach or announced a timeline for hiring Dunk’s replacement.
