Suspect Charged With Assault After Tuscaloosa Man Shot On Hargrove Road

Captain Marty Sellers of the Tuscaloosa County Violent Crimes Unit told local media in an update Tuesday morning that Tuscaloosa Police responded around 12:20 p.m. to reports of a shooting at an apartment complex.

Sellers said officers arrived and found a 23-year-old Tuscaloosa man had been shot in the leg and is expected to survive his injuries.
He then said the suspect — Tremayne Benson, 41, of Tuscaloosa — was found a short distance away and taken into custody.

"The victim and suspect were neighbors who have had an ongoing dispute," Sellers said. "The investigation showed that the suspect and victim got into a physical altercation shortly after 12 p.m. During that altercation, the suspect grabbed a gun and shot the victim."
Sellers said after speaking with all involved parties and witnesses, Benson was charged with first-degree assault and is being held pending bond to be set by a judge.
No one else was injured in the shooting.
