TUSCALOOSA, AL — A suspect is in custody after a high-speed chase ended off of Highway 69 South just before 7 p.m.

The Tuscaloosa Police Department confirmed that an officer attempted to make a traffic stop on a red Honda at 6:51 p.m. near the intersection of Interstate 359 and Cousette Drive.

TPD spokeswoman Stephanie Taylor told Patch that the driver refused to stop and an officer observed him throw an item from the car as he led them on a pursuit along Reese Phifer Avenue.
The pursuit eventual came out on Highway 69 South, with the driver crashing into a traffic light pole near Little Caesars and being taken into custody shortly thereafter.

The northbound lane of Highway 69 South was closed down to one lane as the scene was processed.
