Once on the scene, police found that 42-year-old Roy Lamar Curry Jr. had been shot multiple times and did not survive after lifesaving measures were attempted.
Kennedy said Curry worked at the business detailing vehicles, along with several other employees.

"Other employees on scene reported that a former employee had come to the business and shot Curry for unknown reasons, then stole a vehicle and fled the scene," Kennedy said. "VCU was called out to assume the investigation. After speaking to witnesses and obtaining video from surrounding businesses, the suspect was identified as Tyshawn Laquan Thompson, age 22."
Kennedy then said the crime scene was still being processed by TPD's Major Crimes Unit when warrants were obtained on Thompson for murder with no bond.
"The stolen vehicle was able to be located and tracked by Cyber Intelligence Units, and found to be traveling west through Mississippi," he said. "Local agents with the US Marshall's Task Force were activated, and working with their partner agencies in the State of Mississippi, while receiving real-time intelligence from the Cyber Unit, were able to narrow down and then locate the suspect traveling near Batesville, Mississippi."
Thompson and the vehicle were taken into custody around 10:30 p.m., along with physical evidence of the crime and investigators traveled to Panola County, Mississippi, and seized the vehicle and evidence on search warrants. Investigators also obtained initial statements from Thompson.
"This is another excellent example of all the partner agencies in Tuscaloosa County working together to investigate and capture a dangerous individual," Kennedy said.
Thompson is being held in the jail in Panola County, pending extradition procedures.
