Teen Arrested For Bobby Miller Activity Center Shooting

A teenager has been arrested after one person was injured in a shooting earlier this week at the Bobby Miller Activity Center.

TUSCALOOSA, AL — A teenager has been arrested after one person was injured in a shooting earlier this week at the Bobby Miller Activity Center.

As Patch previously reported, one male victim was shot following a large physical altercation on the center's basketball court, with the shooting occurring inside the building near an exit door around 4 p.m.

The shooting victim was transported to DCH Regional Medical Center in a personal vehicle and was last reported to be in serious condition.

Captain Jack Kennedy, commander of the Tuscaloosa Violent Crimes Unit, said on Friday that several days of investigation, the shooter was identified as 18-year-old Areon Brownridge.

Kennedy said arrest warrants were obtained for first-degree assault with bond/

He then said Brownridge was taken into custody Friday morning by investigators and has now been booked into the Tuscaloosa County Jail with no bond.

The Tuscaloosa County Park & Recreation Authority (PARA) runs the Bobby Miller Activity Center and spoke out about its no-tolerance policy for fighting, violence and firearms — all of which are prohibited at all PARA facilities.

PARA says those violating this policy will be permanently banned from PARA centers and events.
