Tide's Labaron Philon Earns SEC Freshman Of The Week

TUSCALOOSA, AL — Alabama men's basketball guard Labaron Philon was named Southeastern Conference (SEC) Freshman of the Week on Monday.

This comes after the freshman from Mobile logged 16 points, nine assists, seven rebounds, two steals and a block in the Crimson Tide's win over No. 25 Illinois.

Philon currently ranks third in the SEC in assists per game, with 5.2 — good enough for fourth among Division I freshmen.

UA Athletics also pointed out that he is the first Alabama freshmen, since Ronald Steele in 2004 to have at least 26 assists in their first five games of the season.

Going into Alabama's matchup with Houston on Tuesday, Philon is averaging 12.8 points, 5.2 assists and 4.2 rebounds this season.
