Tornado Warning For Southeast Tuscaloosa County Until 11:30 AM

The National Weather Service has issued a Tornado Warning until 11:30 a.m. for a small portion of southeast Tuscaloosa County.

TUSCALOOSA, AL — The National Weather Service has issued a Tornado Warning for a small part of southern Tuscaloosa County until 11:30 a.m. Thursday.

The warning area is just south of Coaling, Vance and Woodstock and includes West Blocton in neighboring Bibb County. The warning does not include the City of Tuscaloosa, the University of Alabama or the City of Northport.

A Tornado Watch for Tuscaloosa County also remains in effect until 1 p.m. Thursday.

The NWS Forecast Office in Birmingham says strong to severe storms are possible Thursday from 9 a.m. through 7 p.m. as a cold front moves across the southeastern United States.

Meteorologists also said the main concern will be damaging winds, though a tornado or two cannot be ruled out, along with isolated hail up to 1 inch in diameter.

What's more, with a wind advisory in effect for much of the state on Thursday, the NWS says strong gusty winds are expected for much of the day and could cause power outages.

As of the publication of this update, neither the Tuscaloosa County School System or Tuscaloosa City Schools have announced any impacts to daily operations.

The Tornado Watch at present includes 22 counties across west and central Alabama, including: Bibb, Blount, Calhoun, Cherokee, Chilton, Coosa, Etowah, Fayette, Greene, Hale, Jefferson, Lamar Marion, Perry, Pickens, Shelby, St. Clair, Sumter, Talladega, Tuscaloosa, Walker and Winston.
