Tuscaloosa Police Department Accepting Applications For 2025 Citizens Academy

TUSCALOOSA, AL — The Tuscaloosa Police Department (TPD) is now accepting applications for its 2025 Citizens Academy, which will offer participants a behind-the-scenes look at law enforcement operations.

The program will have sessions on Monday evenings in February and March, with spaces limited to ensure a hands-on experience.

Applications are open through Dec. 20, and selected participants will be notified in January.

TPD says the Citizens Academy provides a range of interactive activities, including a ride-along with a patrol officer, a day at the shooting range and participation in a mock homicide investigation.

Attendees will also get an up-close look at the department’s forensic science capabilities, along with the opportunity to try out its virtual reality training simulator and learn about TPD’s structure, services, and personnel.

TPD says dinner will be provided during each session.
