Tuscaloosa Violent Crimes Unit Commander Captain Jack Kennedy told local media that a TPD officer was attempting to take a suspect into custody when a struggle ensued, resulting in the officer's weapon discharging.

Kennedy said the suspect was trying to remove the firearm from the officer's belt during the altercation before the gun went off. No one was struck or injured.
He then said the suspect is now in custody, and the investigation is ongoing.

The incident occurred near the 3600 block of Stillman Boulevard and Sellers said it did not involve Stillman College.
