Hastings said the clerk at the gas station initially called the sheriff's office to report that someone attempted to kidnap her.
"She said she was outside in the parking lot smoking a cigarette and the suspect pulls up in his vehicle, asks her if she has another cigarette inside," Hastings said. "She goes and gets it, comes out to give it to him, at which time he physically grabs her, tries to basically get her into the truck, tells her to get in the truck."

Hastings confirmed that the woman did not know Herring.
"She’s fighting against him, he’s trying to open the door to the truck, and she’s just struggling with him, and eventually he brandishes a firearm," Hastings said. "She’s able to break free, get back in the store and call us."
Hastings then said that based on evidence collected by investigators, Herring was identified as the suspect and was located a little more than an hour after the initial report was received.
Herring remains in the Tuscaloosa County Jail with his bond yet to be set by a judge.
