Tuscaloosa County Woman Indicted For Impersonating Lawyer

A Tuscaloosa County woman had been indicted by a grand jury for impersonating a lawyer.

TUSCALOOSA, AL — A Tuscaloosa County woman has been indicted by a grand jury for impersonating a lawyer and local authorities are asking for any potentials victims to come forward.

Tuscaloosa County Sheriff's Office Sgt. Josh Hastings told Patch that Nekenja Boyd became the subject of the investigation going back to September 2024.

Hastings said an individual first came forward and told investigators Boyd was presenting herself as an attorney in a civil suit.

Several other witnesses who had dealings with Boyd also told Hastings she had taken payments for legal services she was not qualified to execute.

Hastings presented the case this week to a Tuscaloosa County Grand Jury, which handed down an indictment for criminal impersonation of a lawyer — a Class A misdemeanor.

"The investigation is still ongoing and there could be additional charges," Hastings said as he encouraged other potential victims to come forward. "Anybody who has had any kind of contact with her is asked to contact the sheriff's office."
