Tuscaloosa Leaders Break Ground On New $1.1M Police Logistics Building

City leaders held a groundbreaking Wednesday for the 7,600-square-foot facility, which will also feature six bays for emergency response purposes.

The new building will be located at 3311 Reese Phifer Avenue.
"One of the great privileges of 20 years of working with the City of Tuscaloosa is the front row seat I've gotten to see what the men and women of the Tuscaloosa Police Department do for the people of Tuscaloosa every day," Tuscaloosa Mayor Walt Maddox said. "This is the best police department in the nation for protecting and serving our citizens every day. It's a real honor to break ground today on this new facility that's going to expand our capacity not only within the Tuscaloosa Police Department but for Tuscaloosa Fire and Rescue as well."

Tuscaloosa Police Chief Brent Blankley pointed out that public safety has changed over the last decade and a half, which he said underscores the need for improved facilities.
"The men and women of that department work so hard every single day," he said. "We went from being a department that was lacking in a lot of technology into one of the most technologically advanced departments in the Southeast."
