"Since 2000, our population has grown by over 34,000 people," Maddox said during his Mayor's Minute video on Thursday. "And since the 2020 census, our population has grown by over 13,000 people. That's a rate of growth of 13.2%."

Maddox then addressed the contributing factors for the city's rapid boom in population.

"Why are we growing? Well, it's because of you," Maddox told the citizens of Tuscaloosa. "You've invested into our community, and our community continues to invest in public education, into infrastructure growth, and most importantly, into strengthening public safety.

"We're going to continue to do those things to make Tuscaloosa have a higher quality of life, and we all benefit," Maddox added. "To each of you that made this possible, thank you. And watch out — we're going to continue to grow."
