What Tuscaloosa Municipal Election Candidates Raised And Spent In January

Tuscaloosa is set to hold its municipal elections for mayor, city council and school board, so here's a look at the money raised and spent.

TUSCALOOSA, AL — The City of Tuscaloosa is set to hold its municipal elections for mayor, city council and school board next month, with election day set for March 4.

Several races will be contested, with at least one three-person race raising the possibility for a runoff if need be.

The first round of monthly campaign finance reports were due to the Alabama Secretary of State's Office last week, with most, but not all, candidates meeting the fundraising threshold required for reporting.

The Secretary of State's Office reports that $460,432.44 in total contributions have been reported thus far ahead of Tuscaloosa's municipal elections, while $238,759.92 has been spent.

It should be noted that the following candidates qualified to appear on the ballot but did not file monthly campaign finance reports for January: Denson Ferrell II (mayor); Dennis “Quick” Collins (District 2); Eric Gaines (District 6).

The only contested race on the Tuscaloosa City Schools Board of Education is in District 1 between incumbent Karen Thompson-Jackson and Tony V. Humphries.

Incumbent District 4 City Councilman Lee Busby is running unopposed and also did not file a monthly report for January.
