Tuscaloosa Offering Funding For Storefront Improvement Program

The City of Tuscaloosa on Monday announced it has launched a new storefront improvement program.

TUSCALOOSA, AL — The City of Tuscaloosa on Monday announced it has launched a new storefront improvement program.

Dubbed Facelift, the program will see the city partner with commercial property owners to share the responsibility of enhancing storefronts.

Funds will be awarded through a one-time reimbursement for no more than $25,000, with the applicant required to contribute at least 20% of the total cost of the project.

“The goal of Facelift is to assist property owners in implementing storefront improvements that will increase business visibility, stimulate private investment, contribute to an inviting commercial environment, and ultimately complement other community development efforts," Economic Development Manager Liz Moore Benda said.

The city says applications are now open for the first round of funding, with the deadline set for Dec. 20.

Eligible buildings are commercially zoned with storefronts visible from the street.
