Tuscaloosa Public Library To Host Second Repair Cafe In March

The Tuscaloosa Public Library's says it will host its second Repair Cafe on Saturday, March 22 from 12 p.m. until 3 p.m.

TUSCALOOSA, AL — The Tuscaloosa Public Library’s says it will host its second Repair Cafe on Saturday, March 22 from 12 p.m. until 3 p.m.

This comes after the success of its Repair Cafe hosted on Jan. 25, which saw 35 volunteers and 145 participants come together to learn how to repair electronics, small appliances, clothing, jewelry, furniture, bicycles and more.

The library says its volunteers attempted 55 repairs, with 85% being successful or partly successful.

What's more, 166.2 pounds of trash was saved from the landfill thanks to the event, which also solicited online donations and raised $190.

The items repaired included a scooter, a treasured handcrafted lamp, a radio from the 1930s, a cuckoo clock, an oven door, a snowglobe, two typewriters, and a Playstation 2.

The library has also partnered with other organizations like the Adult Education program at Shelton State Community College, Habitat for Humanity and the gardening club to provide additional resources to patrons.
