Tuscaloosa Woman Killed, Five Injured In Seven-Vehicle Crash on I-359 Sunday

TUSCALOOSA, AL — The Tuscaloosa Police Department says a 21-year-old Tuscaloosa woman was killed and five others injured early Sunday in a seven-vehicle crash on Interstate 359.

TPD said Sunday morning that the initial crash occurred around 2 a.m. when the victim’s vehicle collided with another in the southbound lanes of I-359.

A TPD spokesperson went on to say that the woman and the other driver had exited their vehicles when a second crash involving five additional vehicles occurred, striking both of them.
The 21-year-old woman was pronounced dead at the scene, while five others were transported to DCH Regional Medical Center in Tuscaloosa with injuries that did not appear to be life-threatening.

The southbound lanes of I-359 remained closed Sunday morning as investigators from TPD’s Traffic Homicide Unit and the Northport Police Department’s Traffic Homicide Unit worked to reconstruct the crash.
The woman’s name has not yet been released pending notification of family members.
The fatal incident also marks the third death on Tuscaloosa County roadways over the weekend, which comes after a Bibb County teenager was killed in a crash early Saturday morning on U.S. Highway 82 and a 19-year-old pedestrian from Tallapoosa County was struck and killed on Jack Warner Parkway later in the day.
