“I am looking forward to helping address some of Alabama’s greatest challenges as we educate our future health care providers,” Huffman said. “Considerable progress has been made on forging partnerships across the state and nation, and we’ll work tirelessly to expand those. We have to be successful because our state’s future depends on it.”
He will begin his new role on May 15, with the foundation supporting Alabama’s fourth residential specialty high school that is set to open in Demopolis in the fall of 2026.

Foundation Board Chairman Kirk Stephens pointed out that Huffman's successful fundraising career in Alabama may be unparalleled in its scope and impact.
A Tuscaloosa resident, Huffman spent the past 21 years at the University of Alabama at Birmingham as executive director of Development and Strategic Planning and as executive director of the School of Dentistry’s Alumni Association.
“By leading two different organizations in the state to their greatest fundraising achievements, Scott truly grasps Alabama’s philanthropic landscape,” he said.
His career began with launching the Alabama School of Math and Science’s early fundraising efforts, something he was commended on after being hired to his newest role.
Huffman will be tasked with overseeing board expansion and the creation of a development committee to help fund the school’s construction and long-term operations.
The Demopolis-based school aims to address Alabama’s rural healthcare crisis through work-based training and partnerships, including with Whitfield Regional Hospital, which is a UAB Health System member.
