University Of Alabama Senior Earns Rhodes Scholarship
The University of Alabama announced on Monday that senior Kate Herndon has been awarded a Rhodes Scholarship.

TUSCALOOSA, AL — The University of Alabama announced on Monday that senior Kate Herndon has been awarded a Rhodes Scholarship, one of the highest academic honors for American college graduates.

Herndon is a native of Newburyport, Massachusetts, and is among 32 students nationwide to receive the scholarship this year. She is 17th recipient in UA history.

She is a University Honors Program student and is double majoring in criminal justice and history, with a concentration in legal history.
Herndon plans to pursue her studies at the University of Oxford, where she plans to focus on the issue of domestic violence through an international lens.

“I am thrilled to be a Rhodes Scholar and so excited to be a part of this vibrant community,” Herndon said. “I look forward to expanding my studies at Oxford with hands-on access to archives and resources pertaining to my work.”
Cited as a campus leader, Herndon servs as vice president of the XXXI female honor society and holds memberships in the Anderson Society, Omicron Delta Kappa and Mortar Board.
“Looking toward my future, I am excited to form a global community of peers and support as I seek answers to the problem of domestic violence,” she said.
