Here are the top stories in Anchorage today:

  1. Marci Suazo has been hired by the UAA Office of University Advancement as the new Director of Public Relations. Suazo will begin her new role the week of Dec. 13, leading the university's communications and public relations efforts. She'll be attending the in-person commencement ceremonies and other events occurring that week, and then work remotely until her family relocates. (Press Release Desk)
  2. Anchorage economic development officials are joining Anchorage airport officials in touting a new cargo shipping initiative they say has the potential to help offset a growing supply chain problem. The Anchorage Economic Development Corporation, in partnership with the Ted Stevens International Airport, has released a feasibility study for a project called Anchorage Pacific Air-to-Sea Service, or ANC PASS, which would work like a hybrid model of air cargo and ocean transport. AEDC president Bill Popp has said officials are working now to market ANC PASS to potential buyers. (KTOO)
  3. Two organizations focused on raising money for the Anchorage Public Library alerted Mayor Dave Bronson that their donors are wavering over instability in the library's leadership. Leaders of the nonprofits Anchorage Library Foundation and Friends of the Library sent Bronson a letter last week outlining their concerns with the state of the city's library system, and said that recent turnover in the library director's office has become an obstacle to the library meeting its mission. Kim Hays, president of the Anchorage Library Foundation, said that they are troubled by the library becoming "a point of controversy or chaos, because it is an institution known for being a clearinghouse for trusted knowledge."
