The federal government provided Alaska with funds for emergency rental assistance. We know that when tenants stop paying their mortgages, their landlords suffer. Our program was designed to invite renters to apply but landlords and utility companies receive the financial assistance directly. More than 8,000 landlords, many of whom are small businesses with a duplex or triplex, have received assistance from Alaska Housing Finance Corporation totaling more than $132 million.

The Wall Street Journal, New York Times and National Public Radio have recently had stories about the difficulty governments are experiencing in getting funds out that may prevent evictions from occurring for those who are struggling as a result of the pandemic. Our program is among the best in the country for ease of application and quick disbursement of payment. We are currently accepting applications for three months of rent and utility assistance. The deadline to apply is next Friday, Oct. 1, 2021.

If you have business members that had to lay off employees or reduce employee hours due to the pandemic or if those employees incurred additional expenses, please invite them to check their eligibility and apply for Alaska Housing Rent Relief. Most applicants have been checking their eligibility using their cell phones in less than five minutes, and they apply for the program at www.AlaskaHousingRelief.org. We’re also available by phone at 1-844-330-8290 for those who need additional assistance.
