Here are the top 3 stories in Anchorage today:
- Anchorage Assembly is keeping the library as its own department and overruled other elements of Mayor Dave Bronson's proposal to reorganize city government. As the Assembly made its changes, Bronson immediately countered with vetoing those changes; however, each time, the Assembly voted to override those vetoes, keeping its changes in place. Assembly members passed the ordinance implementing the city's new structure for the coming year in a 10-1 vote, with member Jamie Allard of Eagle River being the sole vote against. (Yahoo)
- An Anchorage man allegedly using an Instagram account to sell hallucinogenic mushrooms was found in possession of swastika-emblazoned stickers, similar to those pasted on a Jewish museum and a prominent gay bar in the city last summer. Luke Edward Foster, 27, is facing federal drug dealing and weapons charges, and the FBI said it was investigating the case alongside police as a potential civil rights crime. At this time, the stickers are not part of the criminal allegations against him. (Alaska Public Media News)
- Marriott Anchorage Downtown has completed its comprehensive property renovation. The top-to-bottom renovation included a total transformation of guest rooms, public spaces, dining outlets, and function space. The hotel has implemented a number of health guidelines and safety measures to allow people to feel comfortable traveling, including the option for an entirely contactless stay, social events designed to allow for social distancing, and restrictions on fitness center capacity.
