Here are the top 3 stories in Anchorage today:

  1. Voting ends Dec. 31 for the 2021 BroadwayWorld Anchorage Awards. The 2021 Regional Awards honor productions which had their first performance between Oct. 1, 2020 through Sept. 30, 2021. The BroadwayWorld Regional Awards are the largest theatre audience awards, with over 100 cities worldwide participating. (Broadway World)
  2. Joe Hickel is a long-time pastry chef at the Hotel Captain Cook, who unknowingly began an Anchorage Christmas tradition in 1978 when he built the hotel’s first gingerbread village. At 3x5 feet, the first house was as big as he could make it and still fit it out the bakery door, and was named “Marina’s Village” in honor of his then-infant daughter. Today, Hickel's gingerbread village is firmly entrenched as a holiday tradition for many Alaskans. (Anchorage Press)
  3. Anchorage police are investigating the death of an unidentified man who was found downtown on Sunday afternoon. According to a community alert posted by police, at 11:10 a.m. police and firefighters responded to a report of an unconscious male downtown near the 600 block of East 3rd Avenue, where they discovered trauma to the victim’s lower body. The Crime Scene Team will respond to process the scene, and the cause of death will not be determined by the Medical Examiner, not police. (Alaska News Source)
