Here are the top stories in Anchorage today:
- One person died, and another was injured in a car crash on Thursday morning in East Anchorage. The collision occurred at the intersection of Kingston Drive and East Tudor at 9:33 am. Upon arrival, Anchorage police opened a preliminary investigation that found that while driving southbound on Kingston Drive, a Toyota Highlander, upon reaching the intersection at East Tudor, collided with a GMC traveling Westbound. Following the initial collision, a Toyota Four Runner traveling eastbound on Tuder collided with the Highlander. (Alaska Native News)
- In a unanimous vote late Tuesday, the Anchorage Assembly approved a measure giving the Alaska Community Foundation a $6 million grant to help implement the city's homelessness strategy. Another $6 million is expected in philanthropic matches toward the city's plan. As a part of the city's strategy, Anchorage leaders have set aside $3.2 million toward the possible purchase of two hotels — the Sockeye Hotel in Midtown and the Barratt Inn in Spenard — and another $2.8 million toward the possible design of a large East Anchorage homeless shelter and navigation center.
