Here are the top stories today in Anchorage:

  1. According to the National Weather Service, freezing rain may cause major ice buildup throughout Anchorage and the Matanuska and Susitna valleys. Up to two-tenths of an inch of ice is possible around Anchorage and a quarter-inch could accumulate near Palmer and Wasilla. (Anchorage Daily News)
  2. Birders remembered legendary Anchorage Birder Dave DeLap during Anchorage's 2021 Christmas Bird Count. This was the first year in more than a half-century DeLap didn't participate — he died on Oct. 31 at the age of 89. Participants in the Dec. 18 count observed 44 species and 13,137 individual birds, including some "unusual" birds such as a great gray owl, two trumpeter swans, a northern flicker, and a flock of snow buntings.   3. Next month, the Anchorage Symphony Orchestra is presenting American Voices, featuring Timothy Smith on piano. The performance is at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, January 22. (Broadway World)
