  1. A report of shots fired early Friday morning in Midtown found a woman dead and a man injured. Anchorage police responded at 5:10 a.m. Friday to a residential neighborhood at the 3100 block of Cheechako Street. When they arrived, police found two victims: a woman, who was pronounced dead at the scene, and a man with injuries described as not life-threatening. Anyone with information about the investigation, including surveillance footage from the area, is encouraged to call dispatch at 311 (option 1). (Anchorage Daily News)
  2. Providence Alaska Medical Center moved from "red" to "orange" level on Wednesday, which means limited visitors will be allowed after the no-visitor policy that had been in effect for many months due to COVID-19 caseloads. Alaska Regional Hospital had relaxed its visitor policy last week. Neither hospital allows visitors for COVID-positive patients except for pediatric, maternity, and end-of-life patients. (Must Read Alaska)
  3. Two credit agencies announced this week that Anchorage has received a downgrade in bond ratings. Both S&P Global Ratings and Fitch assigned the municipality an AA+ rating Tuesday, citing declining city savings. A downgrade in the rating of Anchorage's bonds would trigger an increase in interest expense costs associated with borrowing. Mayor Dave Bronson says he will continue to seek a decrease in government spending, adding, "We don’t want our children and grandchildren to have to pay the debts incurred today." (KINY)
