Here are the top stories today in Anchorage:

  1. A computer glitch caused panic for some Anchorage residents as they received incorrect COVID test results. Capstone Clinic, the company that runs multiple COVID testing sites in Anchorage and Mat-Su, says a computer glitch led to false positive tests for 124 people, all of which were linked to a single computer analyzing tests from Thursday. Only seven of the test results were reported to the state’s data system. The Alaska Department of Health and Social Services is working with Capstone to determine which incorrect results made it into the state’s daily tally and to subtract them from the total count.   2. Anchorage airports and hotels have seen tourism numbers rebound this year. More than 877,000 passengers traveled through the Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport between May and Sept. this year, compared to the same time last year. Airport officials said those passengers injected more than $1 billion into Alaska’s economy. Additionally, the travel group Visit Anchorage has said hotel demand was up 47 percent over the same time period, as compared to 2020. (U.S. News & World Report)
  3. The Anchorage Assembly has postponed the its vote to confirm Mayor Dave Bronson’s appointed Health Department director, Joe Gerace, until at least Friday amid accusations about his workplace behavior. (Anchorage Daily News)
  4. King Street Brewing is celebrating its 10th anniversary on Dec. 11th with a chestnut party outside in the parking lot. (Anchorage Press)
  5. An Anchorage Assembly member, Meg Zaletel, has survived a recall attempt organized by opponents of COVID-19 mandates. (U.S. News & World Report)
