- An Anchorage business owner illegally purchased walrus tusks and head mount, police revealed following an undercover sting. Uzi Levi, the owner of Levi Car Rental & Sales on Dowling Road, was charged with two violations of the Marine Mammal Protection Act for purchases of six walrus tusks for $300 and a walrus head mount for $500. Levi has denied making any of the purchases. (Anchorage Daily News)
- From staff turnover to overcrowding to subzero temperatures, Anchorage's homelessness situation is facing unprecedented challenges. Mayor Dave Bronson’s administration has seen a half dozen or so resignations or firings over the past several weeks among officials working on the city’s response to homelessness. This comes at a time when temperatures have dropped below zero degrees and advocates have raised concerns about overcrowding in the city’s largest shelter at the Sullivan Arena. - An East Anchorage senior care center is facing a lawsuit for neglecting a resident's well-being after she was raped by another resident, then making efforts to cover up the assault. The attack left the woman, who suffers from dementia, badly battered. Additionally, court documents report that Baxter Senior Living's delay in getting the resident medical treatment led to further injuries that resulted in 15 days of intensive hospital care.
