- Waves of people in downtown Anchorage joined in on the New Year’s Eve festivities — including fireworks, sledding, and live music — to ring in 2022. The event, hosted by the Anchorage Downtown Partnership, returned in full force after last year’s event was turned into a drive-in show due to the pandemic. This year, live music and performances were part of the spirited New Year’s celebration, alongside COVID-19 at-home test kit giveaways. (Anchorage Daily News)
- One person is dead and two others were taken to the hospital after a residential fire early Friday morning in Anchorage’s Mountain View neighborhood. The Anchorage Fire Department was dispatched to the 200 block of North Hoyt Street at 2:19 a.m; when firefighters arrived at 2:33 a.m., a single-family residence was ablaze with three people inside. One person was pronounced dead at the scene and two others were taken to the hospital in unknown condition. (Anchorage Daily News)
