- The FBI Anchorage Field Office is seeking information to identify an Anchorage bank robber. The robbery took place on Dec. 9, at approximately 5:00 p.m. at the Northern Skies Federal Credit Union branch, located at 1000 O’Malley Road. The suspect is described as a Caucasian male with blonde hair, brown eyebrows, green/gray eyes, and approximately 6’2” with a slim build, about 140 pounds. (Alaska Native News)
- Alaska's first case of the new coronavirus variant Omicron was detected in an Anchorage resident on Monday. The variant was detected in someone who tested positive for the virus in Anchorage after traveling internationally in November. Officials at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention say "current vaccines are expected to protect against severe illness, hospitalizations, and deaths due to infection with the omicron variant." (Yahoo)
- Leaders of the Anchorage Assembly are inquiring after a blog alleged that Mayor Dave Bronson’s administration inappropriately pressured the police chief and interfered with the fluoridation of Anchorage’s water. Citing anonymous sources, The Alaska Landmine published a post Saturday suggesting the Bronson administration pressured the Anchorage police chief to order officers to leave a combative Assembly meeting on Oct. 7, among other allegations. Assembly Chair Suzanne LaFrance said that since the Landmine story was published this weekend, she’s heard corroborating stories from other city employees. (Alaska Public Media News)
