Here are the top stories today in Anchorage:
- The University Of Alaska Anchorage will be hosting "Changing Minds in a Divided World: The Art of Strategic Dialogue" on Nov. 17. The virtual event will be a recorded talk by Justin Lee, author of UAA Book of the Year, Talking Across the Divide: How to Communicate with People You Disagree with & Maybe Even Change the World. Lee will discuss the psychological principles behind people's resistance to new ideas and share simple, proven strategies for discussing controversial issues without losing friends. - Both Chugiak-Eagle River Assemblywoman Jamie Allard and former Alaska House Rep. Sharon Jackson have filed letters of intent to run for legislative office in 2022. Allard is in a House district that will not have an incumbent in it under the new redistricting plan, approved by the Alaska Redistricting Board. Jackson, a lifelong Republican and former Alaska delegate to the Republican National Convention, previously lost her seat to Rep. Ken McCarty in 2020. (Must Read Alaska)
- An Anchorage man, 34-year-old Russell Allen Haube, was indicted for murder on Wednesday by a grand jury in connection with the Oct. 23 death of Joseph Evans at the Backpacker’s Inn in Anchorage. Haube was indicted on one count of first-degree murder, two counts of second-degree murder, one count of attempted first-degree murder, one count of second-degree misconduct involving weapons, one count of third-degree misconduct involving weapons, and six counts of third-degree assault. He is scheduled to be arraigned before the Superior Court in Anchorage on Friday. (Alaska Native News)
