Here are the top stories today in Anchorage:
- The University Jazz Ensemble at the University Of Alaska Anchorage will be presenting an evening recital on Nov. 19 And 20. This event will feature jazz standards by renowned American composers and players such as Miles Davis, Duke Ellington, Herbie Hancock, and the great George Gershwin. Concert admission is free for both nights, and the show will take place at the UAA Recital Hall in the Fine Arts Building. (Press Release Desk)
- Doctors across Alaska plan to ask the State Medical Board to investigate concerns about the spread of misinformation about COVID-19 vaccines and treatments by other physicians. Merijeanne Moore, a private practice psychiatrist in Anchorage, said she drafted the letter out of concern over an event about COVID-19 treatments that featured prominent vaccine skeptics in Anchorage last month, and said that nearly 100 doctors had signed the letter as of Saturday, and more could before she plans to submit the letter on Tuesday. The State Medical Board is next set to meet on Friday. (Anchorage Press)
- A vaccine passport or a negative covid test is needed for the Alaska Municipal League annual conference in Anchorage, taking place Nov. 15 through 17. The event is expected to draw 400 or more local municipal officials, mayors, borough assembly and city council members, municipal managers, administrators, attorneys, and other appointed officials or municipal staff. The organization said that it will take other measures to prevent the spread of COVID-19, including testing on-site, vaccinations on-site, distancing, and mandatory masking. (Must Read Alaska)
