Researchers now believe a mix-up in Otto Geist’s collections likely sent coastal whale bones into an inland Fairbanks-area batch, narrowly avoiding a major mistake in mammoth history.
   

4. How Long Is the Train Ride From Anchorage to Fairbanks, Alasla? (thetundradrums.com) — If you’re planning a trip between Anchorage and Fairbanks, the Alaska Railroad’s passenger train takes about 12 hours year-round, with scenic stops in places like Talkeetna and Denali National Park. While flying cuts the trip to about an hour and driving takes 7–8 hours, many travelers choose the slower train for its panoramic wilderness views and more relaxed experience.
