City officials say the gondola is crucial to Eaglecrest’s long-term finances, but delays, tariffs, and a 2028 completion deadline tied to Goldbelt’s $10 million investment are raising stakes for Juneau’s ski area.
   

• After veto overrides, Alaska Gov. Dunleavy drops push for major education reform (ktoo.org) — State lawmakers will return to Juneau on Jan. 20 with Gov. Dunleavy dropping his push for sweeping school reforms after repeated veto overrides. Juneau Rep. Andi Story still wants a veto override on a corporate tax bill earmarked for reading and career-tech programs, while legislators debate future funding, Indigenous education, and possible tribally run school pilots that could shape classrooms statewide.
   

• Lighting strikes milk run flying from Juneau to Sitka Monday morning (ktoo.org) — An Alaska Airlines milk-run flight segment from Juneau to Sitka was struck by lightning Monday morning but landed safely. A passenger described the cabin briefly glowing orange and gold, and the airline says jets are built to handle such strikes while technicians inspected the aircraft as a precaution before canceling the remaining legs.
