• Borough planning commission OKs Sterling gravel pit permit (kbbi.org) — A long-idle gravel pit off Robinson Loop Road in Sterling is set to reopen after the Kenai Peninsula Borough planning commission approved a five-year permit with new conditions. Gravel from the site will support safety upgrades on the Sterling Highway, but neighbors worry about noise, water impacts, and property values, prompting commissioners to restrict nighttime operations and require added berms and noise mitigation.
