A California girl visiting Arizona with her family died after what appears to be an accidental fall from the Horseshoe Bend Overlook, officials said.

According to the Coconino County Sheriff's Office, authorities responded to the Horseshoe Bend Overlook near Page, Arizona, on Dec. 24 for the report of a missing 14-year-old girl. The sheriff's office said the teen's family had last seen her around 2 p.m. and reported her missing around 4 p.m.

The girl was visually located by the DPS team about 700 feet below the overlook but authorities were unable to recover her body in the evening due to impending nightfall, according to the sheriff's office.
