Meanwhile, the village also recently welcomed siblings Michele and Jordan Morgan, who visited alongside Michele’s husband: award-winning actor and Newark native Tobias Truvillion.

The Morgan family underwrote the Winter Village skating rink to help ensure access for children and families throughout the season, according to Festivals United Newark.

“When we were kids, we skated in our sneakers,” Michele Morgan recalled.

“Being able to support the rink and provide skate rentals for today’s kids is incredibly meaningful,” Morgan said. “It’s our way of giving back to the city that raised us.”

Newark First Lady Linda Baraka said the village is about “creating shared experiences that bring families together and celebrate who we are as a city.”

“This is what it looks like when culture, creativity, and community come together in a public space,” Baraka said.

The village opened on Nov. 29 and will close on Jan. 4. Hours are 4 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Thursday and Fridays, and from noon to 8 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays. Admission is free, but reservations and tickets are required for ice skating, bumper cars and igloo rentals. Learn more about this local attraction here.

CARIBBEAN WINTER EVENT

On Friday, Dec. 26, the village will host Caribbean Winter Vybz, a free, family-friendly cultural celebration taking place from 4 to 8 p.m.

The event will include Caribbean music, winter activities and holiday traditions. Attendees can enjoy Caribbean-inspired experiences including heated cultural igloos, live DJ music featuring soca, reggae, dancehall, and kompa, festive photo opportunities, and a lively winter atmosphere.
