Gov. Ducey Lifts Some Coronavirus Restrictions Starting Friday

An executive order allows the reopening of barbershops, cosmetologists and retail businesses within certain parameters.

ARIZONA — Gov. Doug Ducey announced Monday he is taking steps to reopen some businesses across the Grand Canyon State and is stepping up the procedure on how long-term care facilities report coronavirus data.

Starting Friday, barbershops and cosmetologists can resume offering services by appointment only. Also Friday, retail businesses will be allowed to reopen for some in-person operations.

The following Monday, Ducey is also allowing restaurants and coffee shops to reopen for dine-in customers as long as certain safety measures are followed.

Clients, employees and owners of cosmetologists and barbershops are required to follow social distancing and hygiene guidelines. A full list of Ducey's requirements can be found online.

Similarly, employees and customers at retail businesses must continue to follow certain guidelines as required by Ducey. A list of those guidelines can be found online as well.

The state has also expanded requirements for long-term care facilities. Under Ducey's executive order signed Monday, such facilities are now required to report the numbers of coronavirus-related cases and deaths to residents and their immediate family members every 24 hours or upon request.

“Arizona continues to focus on protecting public health, supporting those in need and ensuring we’re taking the necessary steps to return stronger,” Ducey said in a statement. “Our efforts to slow the spread of COVID-19 are working — and Arizonans are still encouraged to limit time away from home. Arizona will continue to take a steady approach and work with the Arizona Department of Health Services as we breathe life back into our businesses and provide guidance on reopening. More to come.”
