Woman Dies In Grand Canyon On Boat Trip: Officials

A woman fell out of a personal boat on the Hance Rapid of the Colorado River on Thursday. Emergency personnel were unable to revive her.

GRAND CANYON, AZ — A 68-year-old woman died in an accident at the Grand Canyon on Thursday, according to the National Parks Service.

Mary Kelley was on a non-commercial boat trip on the Colorado River when she fell out of her boat at the top of the Hance Rapid after 11 a.m., officials said.

Other people on her trip pulled Kelley out of the water and attempted CPR when they saw she was unresponsive. Park rangers took over resuscitation efforts after they arrived by helicopter but were unable to revive her, according to authorities.
