Here are the top three stories today in Phoenix:
- More than 150 flights were delayed at Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport on Monday, with approximately 100 delays reported as of 2:00 p.m. The delays were due to a ground stop issued by the Federal Aviation Administration, citing "other" reasons. Southwest Airlines experienced 72 delayed flights, while American Airlines had 82 delayed flights, and the ground stop's exact cause remains undisclosed. Southwest Airlines representatives mentioned their efforts to minimize delays caused by the extreme heat conditions, as the forecasted high in Phoenix was 115 degrees. (ABC15 Arizona in Phoenix)
- Maricopa County Animal Care and Control (MCACC) is seeking foster homes for 119 dogs by Aug. 1, amid scorching summer temperatures reaching 119 degrees. By providing a foster home, individuals can give these dogs relief from the heat and overcrowded kennels, as well as a chance to acclimate to different environments and potential adoptive families. MCACC emphasizes the need for preparedness and commitment when fostering, ensuring pet-proofed homes, up-to-date vaccinations for personal pets, and financial readiness for potential veterinary expenses. - The Phoenix Theatre Company has acquired a second apartment complex in downtown Phoenix to provide housing for out-of-town directors, designers, performers, and apprentices. The historic property consists of 36 one-bedroom apartments and offers a convenient living and working space for visiting artists, located just a few blocks away from the theater. This move comes as the company prepares to renovate the Hormel Theatre and increase its capacity to 500 seats, expecting the renovation to be completed in 2025. They also plan to accommodate Valley residents and members of their apprenticeship program in the new apartment complex. (12news.com KPNX)

- Over the weekend, metal fans were disappointed when a heat-induced equipment failure forced the band Disturbed to postpone their Phoenix concert. Despite efforts to troubleshoot lasting until 7:00 p.m., none of their equipment would power up in the 118-degree heat. (KTAR.com)
- The David R. Sellers (DRS) Foundation is offering the inaugural "Project Build Hope" grant program to Phoenix-area nonprofits focused on helping those in need and requiring design-build services. The selected nonprofit will receive design-build construction services, assistance in planning and executing a fundraising event, and a minimum of $50,000 in the capital. Applications are open until Sept. 1, and the grant winner will be chosen by Dec. 1. (Queen Creek Sun-Times)
