Here are the top three stories in Phoenix today:
- OneAZ Credit Union has granted $110,000 to 22 Phoenix-based nonprofit organizations through its Community Impact Grant program. Each organization will receive $5,000 to support initiatives aligned with OneAZ's Five Pillars, including children's health, food banks, financial education, veterans' interests, and local youth programs. The program's success is attributed to OneAZ members' debit card usage, with every purchase made contributing one cent to the foundation's funding. Click the link to view the list of recipients. - The Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) is implementing a specialized concrete smoothing process called diamond grinding to replace worn-out rubberized asphalt on various Valley freeways. This method creates a lighter and smoother surface, reducing tire noise and significantly extending the lifespan of the treated sections to over 30 years. With over 50 miles already treated, ADOT intends to continue this process, targeting Loop 101 in the northwest Valley by 2025. (FOX 10 News Phoenix)
- In nearby Scottsdale, a homeowner had an unusual encounter with two bobcats that were occupying his bathroom. After hearing strange noises coming from the attic and thinking it might be a small animal, the homeowners were surprised to find a baby bobcat instead, which they successfully trapped and brought to the Southwest Wildlife Conservation Center. However, their astonishment continued when they returned home to find the mother bobcat sitting on their open toilet. With quick thinking, Kim Carr from the conservation center managed to safely capture the bobcat and reunite it with its kitten, ensuring a happy ending for all. (FOX 10 News Phoenix)
