3 AZ Hospitals Make Newsweek’s List Of ‘World’s Best’
The rankings from Newsweek evaluate the best hospitals in 11 countries, including the U.S.
Several Arizona hospitals were ranked in a new list from Newsweek identifying the best hospitals in the world.
The magazine’s “World’s Best Hospitals 2019” list was created in partnership with Statista, a global market research and consumer data company. According to Newsweek, 1,000 hospitals from around the world were selected for the list “based on recommendations from medical professionals, patient survey results and medical performance indicators.”
Among the top 10 hospitals in the world, four were in the United States. The U.S. hospitals that made the top 10 are:

- Mayo Clinic-Rochester; Rochester, Minnesota (1)
- Cleveland Clinic; Cleveland, Ohio (2)
- The Johns Hopkins Hospitals; Baltimore, Maryland (4)
- Massachusetts General Hospital; Boston, Massachusetts (6)
In addition to the global rankings, which ranked the top 10 hospitals in the world and listed 90 other hospitals in alphabetical order, Newsweek also ranked the best hospitals by country. The magazine explained that the scores awarded to each hospital are only comparable to hospitals in the same country.

More than 200 U.S. hospitals made Newsweek’s 2019 list. The Arizona hospitals on the list are:
- No. 9: Mayo Clinic - Phoenix
- No. 128: Mercy Gilbert Medical Center
- No. 151: Banner University Medical Center Tucson
Newsweek’s rankings list the best hospitals in the U.S., Canada, Germany, France, United Kingdom, Switzerland, South Korea, Japan, Singapore, Australia and Israel.
