No More Warnings: Phoenix changes jaywalking policy as pedestrian deaths rise (azfamily.com) — Phoenix is immediately ending warning-only responses to jaywalking and will now issue citations on first offenses, while investing $5.6 million in new pedestrian-activated crosswalks. City leaders hope tougher enforcement and added infrastructure will curb Phoenix’s high pedestrian fatality rate, which is among the worst nationally. Residents and safety experts say visible crossings and fines could change risky habits at busy intersections.

'Waiting to Exhale' turns 30: The Arizona backdrop behind a cultural phenomenon (12news.com) — Phoenix takes a starring role as “Waiting to Exhale” celebrates 30 years, with the film set in the city and many scenes shot around the Valley. From the Arizona Biltmore to Fountain Hills, the movie’s Arizona locations still draw fans who revisit the story, soundtrack, and iconic backdrops that helped showcase local neighborhoods and scenery to the world.
   

4. Phoenix Zoo announces name of newborn baby giraffe after public vote (azcentral.com) — A newborn Masai giraffe at the Phoenix Zoo now has a name, thanks to more than 11,000 community votes: Kasi, which means “speed” in Swahili. Born Nov. 16, the energetic calf is thriving under mom Sunshine’s care and will likely make her public debut in the Savanna enclosure sometime in January, giving Phoenix families a new reason to visit.
   

5. Phoenix area family donates gifts to hospital where late daughter received cancer treatment (fox10phoenix.com) — A Phoenix-area family is turning their grief into holiday joy by delivering gifts to children on the pediatric floor at Banner Children’s in Mesa, where their late daughter once received cancer treatment. For the sixth year, Chet and Cristal Christmas, along with their other daughters, return to the seventh floor with board games and interactive presents, thanking staff and keeping Savanah’s memory alive.
