Here are the top three stories in Phoenix today:
- Nine people were arrested on Tuesday after officers issued drug-related search warrants at "The Zone," a large homeless encampment near downtown Phoenix. According to Phoenix Police, the arrests happened after 7 a.m. near 9th Avenue and Jackson Street as part of their "crime suppression program." Lt. David Seitter said that police took all nine people they were seeking into custody. (FOX 10 News Phoenix)
- The University of Arkansas voted against the merger with the University of Phoenix 5-4 in a board meeting on Monday. Earlier this year, The University of Arkansas created a nonprofit entity to purchase the University of Phoenix for about $500 million. The University of Arkansas Board of Trustees held a vote on the sale, with four trustees voting in favor of the deal, five against, and one trustee abstaining. (KJZZ)
- The Arizona Humane Society (AHS) has stopped admission for its Bottle Baby ICU due to overcapacity and is now seeking foster homes for orphaned kittens. AHS provides medical care, formula, bottles, blankets, toys, and more for orphaned kittens until they are eight weeks old and ready for adoption. Without a mother to care for them, many of these kittens require 24-hour attention until they are old enough to start eating on their own. (KTAR.com)
