Here are the top three stories in Phoenix today:
- Tuition increases have been proposed for Arizona's three public state universities for the upcoming school year. In the 2022-2023 academic year, Arizona State University charged nearly $13,000 for journalism students, in addition to housing costs, meal plans, books, and parking. Under ASU's proposal, Fall tuition would increase by 3 percent or $330 for in-state students who live on campus, while out-of-state students who live on campus would face a 5 percent increase, or roughly $1,500. Northern Arizona University is looking to increase tuition by 3 percent for in-state undergrads, plus increase housing costs by 4 percent and meal plans by 6 percent. The University of Arizona officials want to raise tuition for Arizona residents by 3 percent for Arizona residents and 4 percent for non-residents. (Arizona's Family)
- This summer, Frontier Airlines will be launching new nonstop seasonal services from Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport to Tampa International airport and Houston's George Bush Intercontinental. Service will start on May 11 and Jun. 18 respectively, with ultra-low fares starting at $59 and $49. The service to Tampa will run daily, while the Houston service will run three times a week, although the frequency and timings are subject to change. (12news.com KPNX)
- The Arizona Education Association, the state's largest teacher's union, now has three women in its top leadership positions for the first time since its founding in 1892. AEA President Marisol Garcia says that her students are realizing that they too can be union leaders and fight for their siblings and children. The union's Vice President and Treasurer are also women, making this a historic moment for the group. (ABC15 Arizona in Phoenix)
