Be Prepared For More 1-10 Closures In Phoenix This Weekend

PHOENIX, AZ — If you've got any plans in downtown Phoenix or the West Valley or you need to take a trip to the airport, you'll need to plan ahead to avoid Interstate-10 closures if you want to avoid frustration and possible headaches.

Here are this weekend's closure details, according to the Arizona Department of Transportation:

• I-10 east will be closed between the Highway 51 and the 202 Loop mini-stack and Highway 143 from 10 p.m. Friday to 4 a.m. Monday for utility relocation and other work for the I-10 Broadway Curve Improvement Project. All on ramps for I-10 east between 3rd and 40th streets will be closed. Closures will include southbound Highway 51 ramps and the southbound I-17 on-ramps at Seventh Avenue and Seventh Street. Traffic on I-10 east can detour on Loop 202 east to Loop 101 south in the Tempe/Chandler areas and use Loop 202 west to reconnect with I-10. Those taking these detours should expect heavy traffic. Those traveling to Sky Harbor Airport can use Loop 202 east to reach airport exits. The exit to Sky Harbor Airport from I-17 south will be open.
• I-10 west will be closed between Highway 143 and the I-17 split interchange near the airport from 10 p.m. Friday to 4 a.m. Monday for utility relocation and other work. All on ramps to I-10 west between Elliot Road and 32nd Street will be closed. Both US 60 west ramps, including the HOV lane ramp to I-10 west will be closed, as well as the US 60 west on ramp at Mill Avenue. Detours to consider for those headed to the airport and downtown Phoenix include US 60 east to Loop 101 north and Loop 202 west to reach Sky Harbor Airport and downtown Phoenix area. Those taking these detours should expect heavy traffic. Those headed from the East Valley to the West Valley should consider using the westbound/northbound Loop 202 to reach I-10.
• I-10 east will be closed between Loop 101 and 75th Avenue in the West Valley from 9 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday for a pavement improvement project. The Loop 101 south ramp to I-10 east will be closed as will the on ramps to I-10 east at Fairway Drive, Avondale Boulevard and 99th Avenue. Those headed east on I-10 are advised to consider exiting ahead of the closure and using local routes, such as McDowell or Buckeye roads, to travel around the closure. Southbound/eastbound Loop 202 is an alternate route to travel to I-10 near Chandler Boulevard.
