Here are the top three stories in Phoenix today:
- Police are investigating after a body was discovered inside a burned home in Phoenix. The incident occurred on Jul. 30 around 11:45 p.m. when two palm trees caught fire and the flames spread to a nearby home. Fire crews discovered the body of an adult male when the flames were extinguished. Phoenix Police Sgt. Phil Krynsky said that there were no signs of foul play. (Fox 10)
- Applications will soon be open for the City of Phoenix's "Artists to Work" program. This federally-funded program will award up to 20 artists with grants of $7,500. Phoenix Arts and Culture Director Mitch Menchaca said that the grants are to support local artists after the COVID-19 pandemic and enable them to keep working in the city. To be considered for a grant, projects must include a public presentation that provides a benefit to city residents. On Aug. 2, the city will hold a virtual information session on the program and application process. (Fronteras)
- Salt River Project, an Arizona utility provider, has partnered with The Precisionists, Inc. of Delaware to provide over 500 jobs for disabled adults through the Phoenix Precision Project. Salt River Project started its initiative with seven autistic employees, and over the past four years, the program has grown to 20 employees across 10 departments at the utility provider. According to information from the Bureau of Labor Statistics, in 2022, only 20 percent of disabled people were employed. (KTAR News)
