Here are the top three stories in Phoenix today:

  1. The Parks and Recreation Board voted on Thursday evening to rename the Circle K Park in South Phoenix to Highline Park due to the park's close proximity to the Highline Canal. In addition to the name change, the board approved a master plan of improvements to the park, including a new playground, new restroom, new sports court, and a nine-hole Disc Golf Course. (Signals AZ)
  2. Phoenix police reported that officers shot and killed a man on Saturday night after the man reportedly tried to break into an apartment near 14th Street and Bell Road. Officers said the man, who was only described as being in his late 70s, pulled out a gun when confronted by officers and refused to listen to officers' commands, eventually firing the gun into the air. The man died at the scene; police are investigating the incident, which is Maricopa County's 22nd officer-involved shooting this year. (Arizona's Family)
  3. This past weekend, Phoenix Pride hosted the two-day Rainbows Festival & Street Fair at Heritage Square Park. The event, which was expected to bring around 25,000 attendees on Apr. 1-2, is a family-friendly LGBTQ+ event free and open to the public that featured drag queens and drag performances even as drag shows become increasingly more the focus of politics. Organizers and attendees spoke about the importance of LGBTQ+ events like the festival. (FOX 10 News Phoenix)
