Dateline Investigates Suspicious Death Of Norman 'Lee' Radder

Crime reporter Keith Morrison will look into whether Radder's 2010 death in Queen Creek was a suicide or a slaying.

PHOENIX, AZ — This Friday's episode of Dateline, NBC's long-running true crime series, will look into the suspicious death of Norman "Lee" Radder.

Radder died from a gunshot wound to the head in December 2010 in Queen Creek.

Robert Fischer was convicted of murdering Radder in 2013 but the conviction was overturned two months later and a new trial was ordered. The Arizona Court of Appeals later reinstated the conviction but the Arizona Supreme Court later threw out the lower appellate court decision and ordered a new trial. Fischer was again indicted on a charge of murder in 2018, but that charge was dismissed by the Maricopa County Attorney's Office in October.

Radder died from a single gunshot wound to his eye, and the bullet came from Fischer's gun. But Fischer's lawyers have suggested that Radder was suicidal, suffering from both money and marital problems.

Investigators and prosecutors said that Radder’s death was staged as a suicide and that Fischer had tried to cover up the crime. There was no fingerprint or DNA evidence showing Fischer fired the gun that killed Radder. Fischer had said he went to bed in another room and later found Radder on the floor after hearing the gunshot. But some experts believe that Fischer was present when the gun was fired, based on the blood pattern on his pajamas.
